On October 13, the 2023 Chengdu "Most Beautiful Family" awards ceremony was held at the Chengdu Women and Children's Center Theater, where the family of Lü Jirong, Deputy General Manager of DDC, was honored with the title of "Most Beautiful Family."

Dr. Lü Jirong is the Deputy General Manager of Chengdu Dadi Hank Biotechnology Co., Ltd. Hailing from the mountains of Hanyuan, Sichuan, she became the country’s first doctoral researcher dedicated to studying animal feed intake regulation.

She and her husband, Chen Bangyun, were classmates during their undergraduate years. First, Lü Jirong was accepted into the graduate program that same year. Influenced by Lü Jirong, Chen Bangyun—who had been working for two years—also decided to pursue graduate studies shortly after, becoming Lü Jirong’s “junior student.” Though their relationship initially blossomed from love, it has since been rooted more deeply in mutual understanding, respect, and a shared commitment to personal growth. During Lü Jirong’s doctoral studies, Chen Bangyun took on the dual roles of father and mother, managing household responsibilities while ensuring their child was well cared for—and even stepping up as the family’s primary financial support during those demanding years. As Dr. Lü’s job often required frequent business trips, Chen Bangyun made the courageous decision to leave his corporate career behind, choosing instead to start his own venture. In doing so, he willingly embraced the full responsibility of caring for the family and raising their child.

When it comes to their children's education, many parents believe that learning is ultimately the child's own responsibility—parents can only provide the necessary conditions, but how well the child succeeds and how they go about studying depends entirely on themselves. To help their kids develop strong study habits, these parents have even introduced business-management principles into their children's daily lives and academic routines. Each term, they set clear goals and establish distinct rewards and consequences tailored to their child's progress, fostering independence in both living and learning. As a result, their interactions with their child have become much more harmonious. This year, their child graduated from junior high school with outstanding grades and was directly admitted to the experimental high-school class at Chengdu Experimental Foreign Language School—a testament to the effectiveness of their approach.

The Lü Jirong family’s approach to family life revolves around companionship. For instance, since their child enjoys basketball and table tennis, they’ve hired coaches to provide lessons and even join practice sessions twice a week. Their dedication has paid off—Chen Yinghao has now reached the highest non-professional level in table tennis, while also excelling in basketball among his peers. During holidays and school breaks, the family makes it a point to visit both sets of grandparents, helping out with chores that the kids can manage and spending quality time celebrating festivals together, all while nurturing their children’s sense of filial piety and gratitude. As the saying goes, "Reading ten thousand books is not as good as traveling ten thousand miles"—so every vacation, the family embarks on trips to culturally rich destinations, either learning about local traditions or taking their children on exploratory journeys to broaden their horizons.

When poor, one cultivates oneself diligently; when prosperous, one extends compassion to the world. Lü Jirong deeply understands that reading has transformed her own destiny—and she also firmly believes that personal example carries far more weight than mere words. That’s why she often dedicates her spare time to engaging in charitable activities with her husband and son, using her actions and demeanor to inspire her family instead of relying on lectures. Over the years, Lü Jirong has repeatedly returned to her former junior high school, as well as her alma maters—her undergraduate and graduate institutions, including Lanzhou University—to share her journey of learning and growth with students at these levels, aiming to influence and empower others along the way.

It is understood that in May of this year, the Chengdu Women's Federation, jointly with the Municipal Civilization Office, launched the 2023 Chengdu "Most Beautiful Families" selection event. After multiple rounds of screening and selective recommendations, combined with online voting, public evaluations, expert reviews, and insights from the review meeting, 100 "Most Beautiful Families" in Chengdu were ultimately selected. This initiative has played a vital role in promoting the building of happy families and inspiring exemplary models that uphold China's outstanding traditional culture.
