The inaugural AFRF 2023 Symposium on Animal Feeding Regulation Held Grandly

Category:

Thrilling May, bringing everyone together in Chengdu—on May 17, 2023, the "AFRF·2023 First Symposium on Animal Feed Intake Regulation," jointly organized by Chengdu Dadi Hank Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and the Sichuan Provincial Engineering Research Center for Animal Feed Intake Control Technologies, was grandly held at the Paradise InterContinental Hotel in Chengdu Global Center. This year’s symposium was themed "Focusing on Animal Feed Intake Regulation to Make Livestock Farming Better," attracting over 400 participants, including prominent leaders from Sichuan’s Department of Science and Technology and industry associations, as well as seasoned industry experts and corporate representatives.

Caring for animals and ensuring their welfare, with a focus on animal feed regulation to unlock farming potential—driven by cutting-edge technology and empowered by academic expertise—the seminar brings together industry leaders and experts from across the animal feed regulation field. Together, they’re dedicated to helping animals enjoy both deliciousness and optimal health, fostering joyful growth, and ultimately making livestock farming a more sustainable and rewarding endeavor.

The Feed Intake Regulation Seminar boasts "New Heights"—high-level, high-standard, and premium-quality.

Li Wei, Deputy Director of the High-Tech Division at Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology; Li Defa, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the China Feed Industry Association; Professor Chen Daiwen, President of the Sichuan Feed Industry Association and a professor at Sichuan Agricultural University; Researcher Jiang Zongyang from the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Professor Jiang Qingyan, Dean of the College of Animal Science at South China Agricultural University; Professor Yu Bing, Secretary of the Party Committee at the Institute of Animal Nutrition, Sichuan Agricultural University; Professor Yao Junhu, from Northwest A&F University; Associate Professor Zhuo Yong, Deputy Director of the Swine Nutrition Research Institute at the Institute of Animal Nutrition, Sichuan Agricultural University; and Professor Fu Wenge, Director of the MBA Education Center at China Agricultural University, among other distinguished guests, attended the seminar. The opening ceremony of the seminar was chaired by Professor Chen Daiwen.

Li Wei, Deputy Director of the High-Tech Division at the Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, shared insights during his speech on the implementation and achievements of Sichuan Province's major science and technology projects in the livestock industry. He praised the Sichuan Animal Feed Regulation Technology Engineering Research Center for its remarkable success in promoting efficient and sustainable animal farming. Li expressed hope that the center will fully leverage its platform role to make even greater contributions toward building the "Tianfu Granary."

In his speech, Professor Li Defa, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the China Feed Industry Association, extended congratulations on behalf of the association for holding the seminar. He highlighted the seminar's significant role in advancing technological progress in the field of animal feed intake regulation, expressing his hope that this event would serve as a catalyst to elevate research and development in feed intake control technologies to even greater heights.

Academician Li also shared emerging trends in the future of feed nutrition. He emphasized that current research in animal nutrition must focus on enhancing feed efficiency, enabling precise formulation, conserving grain resources, and ultimately safeguarding food security. By leveraging pre-digestion technologies to boost animals' feed intake, and by developing dynamic nutrient databases for raw materials, we can achieve more accurate feed formulations. Moreover, as we enter the post-antibiotic era—following the global ban on antibiotics—we now face the challenge of scientifically designing effective alternative combinations that promote both intestinal health and optimal growth. This requires greater integration of biotechnology, advanced feed additive innovations, and the application of microbial metabolites in animal nutrition. In terms of strengthening interdisciplinary research, Academician Li highlighted two key priorities: First, by combining expertise in feed processing technology with insights from animal nutrition, we can strive to enhance feed conversion efficiency, thereby elevating the overall development of the feed industry. Second, by integrating pig farm design and management practices with feed-processing equipment and livestock facilities, we can significantly improve farming efficiency and optimize feed utilization.

This year's seminar has received strong support from the Feed Industry Associations of Beijing, Guangxi, Hunan, Henan, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Hunan, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Shandong, and Yunnan provinces (cities), as well as the Chengdu Women Scientists Association. Meanwhile, Kunpengniao Media and Zhongchu Media provided comprehensive media support throughout the event.

Entering a new stage of development: The center's "Expert Committee" leads the way in driving innovation.

As one of the first engineering technology research centers established in the feed industry, the Sichuan Provincial Animal Feed Intake Regulation Engineering Technology Research Center (hereafter referred to as "the Center") is affiliated with Chengdu Dadi Hank Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and was approved for construction in 2018 by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology. To elevate its scientific research capabilities, the Center has newly appointed its second Expert Committee, building upon the foundation laid by the first Expert Committee.

The second Expert Committee is chaired by Academician Li Defa from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, with Professor Chen Daiwen from Sichuan Agricultural University serving as the vice-chair. The committee brings together 13 renowned experts in the field of animal feed regulation, covering swine, ruminants, aquaculture, and microbiology. During the seminar, Dr. Yu Lin, Director of the Sichuan Provincial Research Center for Animal Feed Regulation Engineering Technology, announced the list of members for the "Second Expert Committee of the Sichuan Provincial Research Center for Animal Feed Regulation Engineering Technology." He then presented appointment letters to the committee members in attendance, including Academician Li Defa (Chair), Professor Chen Daiwen (Vice-Chair), and researchers Jiang Zongyang, Professor Jiang Qingyan, Professor Yao Junhu, Professor Yu Bing, researchers Yu Hang and Dr. Lü Jirong, as well as Doctors Yu Miao and Wang Renjie. For those unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts—Professors Qin Yinghe, He Jun, and Ye Yuantu—their appointment letters will be delivered separately at a later date.

In his speech, Dr. Yu Lin expressed gratitude to the expert committee led by Academician Li Defa for their invaluable intellectual support to the Sichuan Province Animal Feeding Regulation Engineering Technology Research Center. He stated that the "Center" will continue to focus on providing efficient and healthy feeding regulation solutions and technical services to the livestock, poultry, and aquaculture industries. Furthermore, it will intensify its research and development efforts on the mechanisms underlying feeding regulation, as well as innovative, high-quality, and safe feed flavor enhancers and palatability promoters. The Center is committed to addressing critical fundamental technical challenges in animal feeding regulation and delivering comprehensive, system-level solutions to the industry.

The highly distinguished second Expert Committee will undoubtedly give a significant boost to the "Center's" development, guiding it as a pioneer in innovation within the field of animal feed regulation.
