Having journeyed through the scorching summer, the bountiful autumn, the chilly winter, and the hopeful warmth of spring, I’ve now found myself at Dadi for an unforgettable twelve years. Twelve years may not seem short in the span of a lifetime, but as a member of the Dadi family, I feel deeply proud and honored. Not only has Dadi grown stronger with each passing day, but I, too, have fulfilled my personal aspirations—ultimately becoming a successful professional manager.
Having been a teacher for over ten years, when I stepped down from the podium and joined Dadi, I knew nothing about the feed industry—and my understanding of flavors and fragrances was limited to their use in cookies and beverages. At that time, Dadi had just completed a certain level of capital accumulation and was entering a phase of rapid growth. Our office was located within a residential area on Liangjia Lane, occupying three interconnected apartments that totaled just over 300 square meters. My first role at Dadi was as an internal clerk in the Raw Materials Department. Every day, I’d ride my bicycle back and forth between the Production Department on Waibei Hongshan Road and Liangjia Lane, meticulously double-checking the quantities of raw materials and packaging. Gradually, I—who had previously loathed “accounting,” dismissing it as pointless busywork and even considering multiple entries on a single number as unnecessary—began to grasp the practical purpose behind each accounting task.
The growth of the Great Emperor would have been impossible without the efforts of every member of the Great Empire. Similarly, my own development has been deeply enriched by the support and guidance of my colleagues, who have taught me what it truly means to put your heart into your work, to remain dedicated and professional, and to stay loyal. I still remember Wen Yaohong, the warehouse manager for raw materials, meticulously weighing each incoming shipment—his attention to detail was unmatched. And during our 2006 move, he went above and beyond, racking his brains to maximize space so that every moving truck could carry as much as possible. Then there’s Wang Chunlin, who, after delivering goods, would often mutter under his breath whenever he noticed even a slight increase in shipping costs. It was he who showed me the importance of careful planning and cost-consciousness. Finally, I’ll never forget Zhang Hong, the former packaging warehouse manager, whose deep knowledge of the company’s products and each customer’s specific packaging needs was nothing short of remarkable. He always kept track in his mind—whether a particular customer’s product had already been produced or if the right documentation was ready for dispatch. His meticulousness and dedication have left an indelible mark on how I approach my work today.
The most unforgettable days were in the summer of 2006, when Chengdu experienced more than 40 consecutive days of scorching heat. Back then, Hongshan Road was in a dire state—most of the surrounding factories had already relocated. Our electricity was sourced at a steep price from the single remaining company nearby. As a result, our company became a prime target for thieves, with telephone lines frequently being snatched away. Even telecom providers seemed helpless by this point. To this day, no one knows exactly when Uncle’s air conditioner outdoor unit was taken. Every morning, the first thing we’d do upon arriving at work was ask Xiao Long if there was water or power outage—because it was all too common to face a complete lack of one or even two of these essentials. Yet despite these challenges, we persevered with daily production. At our peak, we managed to produce 6 to 7 tons of goods each day. To meet our targets, I rallied the entire team: the first shift started at 7 a.m., the second shift kicked off at 4 p.m., and we wrapped up after 11 p.m. Still, even under such intense effort, our daily output never quite reached 10 tons—barely half of our current daily capacity.
The worst experience was when the water supply was cut off for a full week—life depended solely on water delivered by fire trucks. Those days of waiting for the fire trucks became our little festival, and we even struck up friendships with the firefighters who brought us much-needed relief. Meanwhile, the surrounding residents also benefited from our situation; I still recall one memorable occasion when the line of pots and buckets waiting to collect water stretched right through our factory—and even spilled out beyond the gates of the rubber factory! Ever since, whenever I see drought reports on TV from different regions, I can’t help but think back to that unforgettable time on Hongshan Road.
For the past twelve years, I have served as a seasoned procurement manager in the industry and have earned widespread recognition within the field. This success is largely due to the company’s steadily increasing raw material consumption, which has given me greater influence in my interactions with suppliers. Moreover, the company’s healthy business operations have significantly boosted its reputation, earning it the prestigious 3A-rated customer status from numerous suppliers—and fostering strategic partnerships with many of them.
Of course, our growth would also not have been possible without the years of support from our suppliers.
Under my initiative, the fragrance and flavor industry established the "Fragrance Companions for Life" association, fostering mutual information sharing and win-win collaboration across our shared industry. As a result, I’ve also formed lifelong friendships with several suppliers. Last year, when eugenol faced a severe supply shortage, it was thanks to the association’s timely insights that I was able to help my company maintain usage while cutting costs by more than 100,000 yuan. Moreover, procurement has evolved from being merely a support function for production into an increasingly strategic department that enhances our company’s competitive edge.
For the past twelve years, I’ve been there through both the milestone 10th-anniversary celebration and several of the company’s relocations. From the initial production space of just over 80 square meters to today’s nearly 50-acre facility, our workforce has grown from two or three dozen employees to more than a hundred today. As the company continues to thrive, I’ve also matured steadily, steadily enhancing my capabilities—enabling me to handle unexpected challenges with ease and maintaining a calm mindset whether raw material prices rise or fall. Meanwhile, the days of shedding tears over shortages of saccharin or regretting overstocked inventories are now firmly behind us.
It's my honor to be part of the Dadi family. Over the past twelve years at Dadi, my greatest gains have been fulfillment and happiness—this company truly feels like home, and I love it deeply! I’m eager to continue growing alongside the company!
