DDC Animal Feeding Regulation Technology Shines at the 3rd Ruminant Nutrition Technology Innovation and Development Forum

Industry Hot-Tech Conference, " The 3rd Ruminant Nutrition Technology Innovation and Development Forum "Held at the Jinhe Building in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, on July 25–26, 2019."

Additionally, practical experts such as Xiao Feng Li, a seasoned consultant specializing in enterprise innovation and development, Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University's Executive Program, and a seasoned marketing strategist, will join the discussion to explore cutting-edge technologies, recent advancements, and emerging trends in ruminant nutrition. The event will facilitate dialogue among industry, academia, and research institutions, showcasing innovative scientific and technological achievements in ruminant nutrition. It will also foster deeper collaboration between research institutes and enterprises, driving the transformation of these innovations into enhanced productivity—and ultimately helping businesses overcome growth challenges and build stronger competitive advantages. DDC Liu Feng, Manager of the Technical Service Department, was invited to deliver a keynote report titled "Application of Feed Intake Regulation Technology in Ruminants" at the conference.

In the report, Manager Liu Feng mentioned that factors such as breed, nutrition, environment, and management can all influence the production performance of animals. Variety, Environment Currently, making changes isn't easy, yet feed nutrition is constantly evolving. Therefore, controlling feed nutrition is crucial for improving production performance. However, insufficient feed intake can lead to a range of negative effects on animals.
He believes that currently, there are mainly the following situations requiring an increase in animals' feed intake:
1. Stress: Summer heat stress, as well as stress around calving—both before and after.
2. Raw material changes: The raw materials vary significantly across different batches, and the range of ingredients used is wide, making it impossible to ensure product stability.
3. High Yield: High-yield dairy cows, and the rapid fattening period for finishing cattle and sheep in their later stages.
Ruminant Taste and Olfactory Physiology: Cattle and sheep have 125 to 220 olfactory cells, which is 10 times more than humans. Additionally, they possess around 18,000 taste buds—three times the number found in humans. As a result, cattle and sheep have an exceptionally keen sense of smell and taste; odors that humans may not even detect can still be clearly perceived by these ruminants.
Imprint effect: Animals' preferences for flavors are influenced not only by their genes but also by the flavors their mothers consumed during embryonic development, pregnancy, and lactation. This maternal influence is what we call the imprinting effect. We can add specific flavoring agents to both the gestation feed and lactation feed, and then incorporate this same type of flavoring agent into the calf rearing feed, which can help alleviate weaning stress in calves.
Adding unconventional ingredients to feed formulations can lead to animals refusing to eat, while incorporating flavoring agents can effectively alleviate the stress responses caused by these ingredient changes.
During the transition phases of an animal's life stages, the feed formulation changes. However, if flavoring agents are used to ensure that feeds for different stages maintain a consistent taste, it can help mitigate the drop in feed intake often associated with this feed transition.
For some low-quality roughages, we can add certain flavoring agents to increase the animals' feed intake.
